Leeds based Rosemont Pharmaceuticals recently purchased an automatic filling and cap tightening line from Universal Filling Machine Company to fill oral medicines in syrup & suspension form. Keeping these two types separate was important as was the space requirements only allowing for a single production line and clean room. Matt Swain from Rosemont Pharmaceuticals says that the unique way in which the filling pumps can be changed rapidly and cleaned away from the production line enables them to change products several times a day with minimal downtime. Changeovers, which had previously taken several hours, can now be done in minutes. The development of the Posimatic EV range of machines bridges the gap between manual and fully automatic operation. There are now two models available, the four head EV1000, for filling containers up to 1.25 litres in capacity and the twin head EV5000 for filling containers up to five litres in capacity. The EV concept involves the use of a container handling module fitted with a conveyor, control unit, container gating and diving nozzle system, plus a separate quick release roll up filling module that can be mounted behind the chassis. Customers are able to select from either Volumetric or vacuum filling options to suit different types of products. Customers moving towards automating their filling operation with the EV system are also able to speed up the capping process and ensure consistent torque with the Universal Posicap automatic cap tightening unit. This single head machine features a simple system for adjusting the head height and quick-change jaws for handling different cap diameters. It can handle caps ranging from 10mm up to 100mm in diameter and can operate at speeds up to 40 containers a minute.
