Do you have problems filling foamy products?
Universal can overcome your product foaming problems with their diving nozzle assembly. This is standard on all automatic machines and can be fitted to our semi-automatic equipment. The assembly allows the filling nozzle(s) to drop to the bottom of the container and rise just ahead of the rising liquid. This ensures a smooth fill and as the foaming is eliminated, allows for increase production outputs.

Does the shape of your containers limit your filling speeds?
Most containers narrow towards the neck, causing the liquid to enter the container faster than the shape will allow - resulting in the liquid spurting out of the neck! All Universal's Volumetric Fillers (except the Ecofill) come as standard with 2 speed filling to eliminate this. 2 speed filling allows very fast "primary" filling into the container body and then slower
controlled "secondary" filling into the neck. The results give significant increases in filling speeds and eliminate "overflow" spillages.

Do you have problems handling unusual container shapes?
Containers that are unstable or have an awkward shape can be handled on an automatic system with the use of container ‘pucks’. Universal can make pucks, usually made from plastic, to stabilise your container(s). If required we can also provide a ‘puck return’ conveyor to automatically re-circulate the pucks to the start of the system. With careful design, a ‘puck return system’ can reduce change over times, as only the fill volume / level and the height of the filling heads need be adjusted.

Does your current filling equipment give you "dripping" problems?
Universal’s 25 years experience in testing and filling thousands of liquids has enabled us to develop a very extensive range of different filling nozzles to solve the problem of dripping (and stringing). Designs, including side spray holes, fitted gauzes and pneumatic closing nozzles, ensure you ‘drip free’ filling. For stringy products, like some shampoos, our suck back system will give you a quick, smooth fill.

Do your glass bottle tolerances create unacceptable variations in visual fill levels?
During the manufacture of glass bottles, small, but unavoidable, differences occur in the internal volume of the bottles the better the ‘glass’ the less the variations.
To overcome these common component weaknesses Universal’s Vacuum Level filling range of machines guarantees that the finished product has consistent visual fill levels, no matter how great the bottle volume tolerances are, for perfect ‘on the display shelf’ appearance. Vacuum Level filling, is also perfect if a minimum air gap, for product expansion is required, e.g. for Nail Polish.

When filling creams and other thick liquids, do you suffer from air pockets?
Creams often fold over onto themselves when filled on a normal system, this causes air pockets or bubbles in the filled container, making it unattractive to the end consumer. Universal has overcome this problem with its Short Stroke Dive & Spinning Table standard attachment unit.
The filling nozzle dives to the bottom of the container or jar at the start and rises during filling. The table spins during the filling cycle ‘spreading/throwing’ the product outwards by centrifugal force thus preventing the product folding over or air bubbles being created. This is also the perfect solution for filling square or square shouldered jars, ensuring the product spreads right into the corners or shoulders without entrapping air pockets.
This unit can also be used for special effects, such as swirls created by filling two different products simultaneously.

Does your current equipment supplier let you down supplying spare parts?
Our equipment is built to last! However, no matter how good any equipment is, at some point damaged or worn parts will require servicing or replacing. Universal is committed to Excellent Customer Service, which means that we work with our partners to provide the best ongoing support possible to ensure that you have minimum disruption to your production. One element of our commitment to Excellent Customer Service is our approach to spare part supplies and we set ourselves tough performance targets which we monitor monthly.
We aim to dispatch a minimum of 98% of all standard parts the same day and 95% of all special manufactured parts within 5 working days.

Does your wide range of products cause downtime problems on product change overs?
All Universal machines are designed to keep product changeovers to a minimum. Most of our machines are designed for tool free changeovers and the use of quick release nozzles, sanitary couplings and the availability of complete change dispensing pump assemblies, all help to facilitate rapid changeovers, when required. All our automatic filling systems are of In-line design eliminating the need for expensive and time consuming change parts. In addition to individual change dispensing pump assemblies our latest Mk3 & EV Automatics, as standard have entire roll-up & plug-in dispensing stations, offering immediate changeover. These mobile units are simply unplugged and wheeled away (for separated cleaning) and the alternative dispensing unit wheeled into place and plugged into the system ready to restart production with no lost time or money.

Do your operators suffer from tiredness, cramp or muscle tiredness when manually cap tightening?
Incorrectly capped containers can obviously lead to product leakage during transport to your customers, causing problems and potential product returns, possibly even the loss of a contract. Hand capping is a tiring operation and consistent closure torque difficult to maintain. In many parts of the world, employees are becoming more aware of repetitive strain injuries (RSI) caused at work and issuing claims against their employers. Universal have developed with another manufacturer a system that solves all the above problems in one unit. Our hand held capper unit, fitted with an Anti RSI attachment eliminates operator tiredness, ensures consistent closing torque and prevents repetitive strain injury to the operator.

Do you need equipment flexible enough to grow with your expanding future product requirements?
When deciding to purchase any capital equipment “future proofing” is very important. You want to know not only is it built to last, but designed to last. Universal think most people want to grow their business and our machines are designed to grow with you. Being of modular design, all our filling machines (with the exception of the Handifill and Posifill EF) are flexible and can be upgraded to multi-head units (semi-automatics up to 6 heads and automatic up to 12 heads). Our Semi-automatic volumetric fillers are also designed to combine together to form the basis of a fully automatic In-line filling system. The same unit that gave you 30 containers a minute can be fully utilized to help achieve 100+ containers per minute in the future.
