Case Study – Boots Contract Manufacturing
BCM is the contract manufacturing business of Walgreens Boots Alliance and is one of the largest health and beauty contract manufacturers in Western Europe with over 100 years’ experience of manufacturing health and beauty products.

The Challenge:
BCM wanted to upgrade an existing filling line by installing a new filling machine which would:
- Increase output speeds
- Improve accuracy and reduce giveaway
- Extend the range of products currently running on the line
- Allow for complete changeovers in less than 20 minutes (including cleaning)
The machine would need to integrate with the existing capping machine which was not changing and a puck return conveyor system which was already installed.

The Solution:
Universal’s Posimatic EV1000 six head fully automatic filling machine was selected based on the performance of previous installations that had been undertaken. The unique design of the Posimatic EV1000 allows for the complete rear filling chassis including all contact parts to be wheeled away and replaced with an interchangeable set of parts which have already been cleaned off-line.
This was the third Posimatic EV machine supplied to Boots by Universal and the previous machines had been a complete success. Standardisation on parts such as seals and interchangeable filling nozzles meant that different products could be run on multiple lines which made production planning easier. The machine was installed and commissioned within a two day production slot then set to work immediately.
